Day 3 - Centre Pompidou and a surprise

Jack had to teach this morning so the kids and I had to venture out alone to find a grocery store.  The area we are living in has very narrow, one-way streets -- so it is very easy to get lost, which makes walking around all the more fun and is a great way to explore.  You just have to give yourself twice as much time to run even the simplest errands.  As we looked for the store, we came across a gem (well at least to Jackson).  Right in front of our eyes stood "mymariostore.com" store.  Not only does this store have every mario/luigi item possible, it also sold DSi adaptors for European outlets.  For Jackson it was nirvana.   We weren't able to charge the DSi using our converter so we were living without it.  Can you imagine?  No electronics for a few days.  Well after today that has ended, we are well equipped with a new adapter.  The other highlight in the store was the preview Mario game they were featuring.  It is to come out at Christmas.  I wasn't able to decipher the name because my French is weak and the shop worker's English was minimal.   However, we did figure out that we couldn't buy it today.  Jackson saw it immediately and knew it was something different.  I wish he was as attentive to different things at home.

We meet Jack after lunch at the Pompidou.  I was hesitant because last time I got to stay for only 5 minutes.  This time was very different and extremely enjoyable.  What a difference 2 years makes!  The kids got English guide headphones which were iPods they informed us.  We stayed for well over 2 hours and had a great time.  As we entered the permanent collection, another American boy about Grace's age shouted "these aren't Jackson Pollack!" This piqued the kids interested and they started looking for his work.  Both liked Kandinsky but had the best time in the children's area because they got to draw.    We learned that the museum rotates their work of art every 2 years and both Jack and I noticed it.  I guess one needs to return to Paris every 2 years.  We left to museum and had a snack.  Jackson got a chocolate crepe with bananas and Grace ate a sandwich - she must have been very hungry.  (She lost her tooth before we left and has proclaimed that she no longer has a sweet tooth.)

  1. Hi Bauers - Owen and I read your blog for the first time this morning. Sounds like you are busy doing so many interesting things and sampling all the local treats. Owen would like a piece of chocolate and I would love one of those crepes! Owen wants to know how tall the Eiffel Tower is and if you went to the top yet. Do you climb up steps or is there an elevator?

  2. I don't know how tall the Eiffel Tower is, but I'm going there this weekend. Also, you can go up elevators or stairs to the second level. You have to take an elevator to the top. I wish you were there!
